After completing my undergraduate degree at Maynooth University, I undertook my PhD at the University of Cambridge with Dr. Gregory Jefferis. In addition, I was also a research fellow at HHMI Janelia Research Campus in the lab of Dr. Gerald Rubin. For my doctoral work I developed new molecular genetic tools to facilitate specific control of neuronal cell-types in Drosophila. Using these technologies I identified the how innate and learned sensory representations are integrated during memory retrieval.
As a postdoctoral fellow in the Stevens and Macosko labs, I am developing and applying new genomic approaches to study microglia in development and neurodegeneration.
