Alex Melain
Alex graduated from Texas State University with a B.S. in Biology and has accrued over 8 years of experience in animal behavior, welfare and care. Dr. Kate Baker provided extensive mentorship while Alex was employed in the Unit of Behavioral Management and as a Scientific Research Analyst at the Tulane National Primate Research Center where she specialized in nonhuman primate behavior, welfare management, and oversaw a variety of collaborations incorporating behavioral and neurocognitive measures. Dr. Scott Edwards’ behavioral neuroscience lab at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans presented Alex opportunities to work as a Research Associate on projects with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and investigating pramipexole treatment for chronic inflammatory pain with Dr. Amanda Pahng. Alex joined Dr. Beth Stevens’ neurobiology lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in late 2022 as a Senior Research Associate in cooperation with Dr. Kevin Mastro. Her primary role is investigating higher cognitive function in the common marmoset utilizing behavioral and electrophysiological measures to better understand how developmental refinement of the prefrontal cortex impacts cognition and behavior. Alex is absolutely delighted to collaborate with the talented and exceptional people that make up the Stevens Lab!
